The Australian Society of Information & Communication Technology in Agriculture (ASICTA) cordially invites you to participate in the 9th AFITA conference. The conference is organised by ASICTA and Edith Cowan University (ECU) and will be held in Perth, Western Australia. The conference is supported by ECU and AFITA.

This is the first time the AFITA Conference will be held in Australia, with previous conferences being held in Taiwan, Indonesia, Japan, India, Thailand, China and Korea. It promises to be Australia’s largest gathering of ICT professionals, combining three days of keynote presentations, one day of workshops/industry excursions, deep-dive discussions and networking with local and international industry-, research- and government-leading thinkers.


Of special interest to growers and advisors will be presentations and demonstrations of practical applications from ICT developments at this conference. One day during the conference is dedicated to field and industry tours as well as a special workshop(s).  

Proposed papers or posters should relate to topics such as:  Adoption of ICT for agricultural development, Sensor networks and agricultural applications, Precision agriculture, e-Agriculture and policy development, Farming information and management systems, Farm to market product tracking, Agriculture ontologies and the semantic web, Data mining for agriculture, Environmental monitoring and agriculture, Web-based and mobile farming advisory systems, Spatial information systems and resource management, Farming practices and climate change, Biotechnology and food quality, Optimization and modelling in agriculture, Sustainable agriculture, Agricultural systems and cloud computing, ICT and cropping, ICT and forestry, ICT and aquaculture, Greenhouse control systems, Artificial intelligence applications in Agriculture or Food security technology.

A post-conference workshop is also available for personal development and networking. Mark Heffernan, who has more than 20 years of experience in system modelling, is conducting the workshop. He has a major interest in the application of simulation techniques in a broad range of business context. He has developed and run workshops in simulation and systems analysis throughout Australia, Europe, South East Asia and America. For more than 20 years, Mark headed up the systems modelling group at Evans & Peck and he is currently CEO of Dynamic Operations.
